IPL Treatment Q & A

What is IPL treatment?

IPL(intense pulsed light) is a type of light therapy providers use to treat wrinkles, spots, and unwanted hair, pigment and more.

New York Laser and Skin Clinic utilizes the MISTRAL LHE technology, 400-1200 nm — an internationally popular multi-platform photodynamic system.

While laser and IPL treatments are similar, IPL uses light with several wavelengths, not just one. When your provider points an IPL device at a treatment spot, the light absorbs and penetrates down to your second layer of skin, avoiding damage to it's surface.

When would I benefit from IPL treatment?

You may benefit from IPL treatment if you’d like to minimize or reduce:

  • Age or liver spots
  • Sun damage
  • Birthmarks
  • Freckles
  • Spider veins
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Unwanted hair on your face or body
  • Wrinkles

Before an IPL procedure, avoid tanning beds, direct sunlight, chemical peels, waxing, or collagen injections.

What happens during an IPL treatment?

During an IPL treatment, the IPL technoligy delivers a select pulsed light wavelength into your skin. This process can stimulate your body’s natural defenses, destroying acne and other bacteria and reducing inflammation.

This treatment also stimulates collagen and elastin protein production deep in your dermis. The new growth of collagen and elastin helps rejuvenate your skin, reducing wrinkles, scarring, and new stretch marks, and provides an overall improved complexion.

You can expect the procedure to take 20-30 minutes depending on the treatment area. Afterward, you can return to your daily activities.

Your provider may recommend 3-6 sessions for optimal results.

IPL for hair removal may require 6-10 treatment sessions.
